Lord Hunt, UK Minister of State for Energy in the Department of Energy and Climate Change, visited Baku 15-17 September 2009.

 

He gave the keynote speech to the Gas Infrastructure World, Caspian 2009 international conference.  

 

He also held discussions with H.E President Aliyev, with the Minister for Energy and Industry and with the President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan.

 

At the subsequent press conference on 16 September, Lord Hunt said : 

 

"Azerbaijan is a rapidly developing country strategically situated in the wider Europe region.  Over the last decade major projects like the development of the ACG and Shah Deniz oil and gas fields and the BTC pipeline have made Azerbaijan an important world energy supplier. The Caspian countries, of which Azerbaijan is one, have significant hydrocarbon reserves which could greatly benefit European consumers.The dream of piping Caspian gas directly into Europe is now approaching reality."
