Disabled access

The British Embassy Baku is keen to ensure that our building and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public. Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. However, we will always endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people. All visitors are escorted at all times throughout the Embassy. To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access at this Embassy. We hope this information is helpful.

General physical access

Parking facilities:

No specific disabled parking available. There is on street parking available on Khagani Street and other surrounding streets though spaces may be limited.

Main Entrance:

There is a ramp at the main entrance and lifts throughout the building. The airlock at the main entrance would be difficult for wheelchair users, but there is a side door nearby which is accessible and has a ramp. Security guards are always present and will provide access through this doorway when needed. The consular/visa office can be accessed using a ramp or very small step.

Staircases

Internal staircases, with handrails, are not accessible to the general public except in emergencies. In an emergency, exit would be via the staircase.

Lifts:

The consular/visa office is on the ground floor and is accessible to wheelchair users. There are lifts to other floors which can be used by members of the public attending meetings or other events at the Embassy.

Toilets
There is a toilet in on the ground floor which is accessible to
and adapted for wheelchair-users and those with limited physical mobility.

Public Areas

There are 4 public service counters for Visa or Consular customers at
standard desk height. There is one at wheelchair height in an adjoining room- please ask a member of staff, who will be pleased to assist you.

Floor coverings

Floors are carpeted in general and tiled in sanitary areas and are safe and even.

Handrails

Installed only in limited mobility toilets and internal staircases.

Doors

Most doors and doorways should be accessible to all users but some of the doors are very heavy and open inwards which may present a problem for those in a wheelchair. If you have any difficulties, please ask a member of staff, who will be pleased to assist you.

Lighting

There is good lighting throughout the Embassy

Access for visually impaired visitors

Signs are in standard text. Guide dogs are welcome.

Access for Deaf/hard of hearing visitors

Alternative sound amplification equipment is installed at customer service points in the Consular/Visa office and the main reception. Hearing dogs are welcome.
