His Royal Highness The Duke of York, the UK's Special Respresentative for International Trade and Investment paid an official visit to Azerbaijan on 2-3 June.

Visa Section Visitors

Please note that the British Embassy Visa Section in Baku will operate a limited visa service between 23 June and 3 July 2009. If you plan to travel between Monday 22nd June - Friday 3rd July, please apply before Friday 19 June.

Azerbaijan changes visa regime

Azerbaijan is in the process of changing the visa regime. We are seeking clarification, but understand that under the new system letters of invitation must be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baku.

UK in Azerbaijan

The British Embassy in Baku represents the British Government in Azerbaijan. Its role is to liaise with the Azerbaijani Government and institutions on behalf of UK institutions and government departments, and to deliver the UK’s international priorities.

The British Ambassador to Azerbaijan is Dr.Carolyn Browne.

Business opportunities

Political work

Currently our main priorities are to support Azerbaijan’s program of democratic reforms and aspirations towards greater partnership with the European Union and NATO, and to help Azerbaijan meet the obligations of membership of the Council of Europe.

Catherine Cleeve, Second Secretary Political, heads the Political Section which reports on political and economic issues to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. We liaise with the government, parliament, political parties, academics, journalists, NGOs and others on internal and foreign policy issues, including economic issues and human rights.

Michael Davenport visit to Baku

Mr.Michael Davenport, Director of the Russia, South Caucasus and Central Asia Directorate in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) paid a two-day visit to Baku on 18 - 19 May 2009. During his visit to country Mr. Davenport had a meeting with Mr. Khalaf Khalafov, Deputy Foreign Minister during which he handed over a letter of invitation from Prime Minister Gordon Brown to President Ilham Aliyev to visit London in July 2009.

Mr.Davenport also met with Mr. Samad Seyidov, MP, Head of the Azerbaijani PACE delegation as well as with representatives of diplomatic corps, political experts, human rights defender and youth activists.

During the visit Mr. Davenport also toured Sangachal Energy Terminal and met with energy, commercial contacts.
